Gaps

À la croisée des contributions des actes du colloque Computer Art Congress 7 (CAC7) que j’ai mis en page pour Europia productions, les photographies de Khaldoun Zreik, récoltées pendant la durée du CAC7 à Genève, sont mise en scène dans un dispositif artistique s’immisçant dans les interstices de la structure éditoriale de cet ouvrage. Empilées et orchestrées derrière une partition visuelle, formée par une grille au sein de laquelle chaque carré cadre un fragment de l’une des images, elles deviennent un paysage programmé. Dans la version animée, accessible à l’adresse https://www.rudyrigoudy.com/gaps, la fragmentation du format, et la variation des durées des fondus enchainés entre chaque image dans chaque fragment, décomposent et recomposent les paysages représentés. La temporalité, sur laquelle est orchestrée le caractère éphémère des combinaisons, est enrichie par un paysage sonore électro-organique réalisé par Paradise Now. Ainsi, les fragments se juxtaposent et composent, à l’infini, des paysages cycliques aléatoires. Malgré la nécessaire fixation des combinaisons pour répondre aux besoins éditoriaux, ce paysage programmé permet à la fois au regard de voyager dans la matière du visible, entre le temps et le mouvement, et de fabriquer un réseau d’informations, visibles et invisibles, entre la constitution d’un récit visuel, la construction d’une page et la structuration d’un livre.

Spanning across the other contributions of Computer Art Congress 7 (CAC7) that I laid out for Europia productions, the photographs of Khaldoun Zreik, taken during CAC.7 in Geneva, are presented through an artistic device that insinuates itself into the gaps of this publication’s editorial structure. Stacked and orchestrated behind a visual score formed by a grid where every square frames a fragment of one of the images, they become a programmed landscape. In the animated version, accessible on https://www.rudyrigoudy.com/gaps, the fragmentation of the format and the varying length of dissolve between each image in each fragment decompose and recompose the pictured landscapes. The temporality defining the ephemeral character of the combinations is further enhanced by the electro-organic soundscape carried out by Paradise Now that accompanies them. Thus, the fragments are juxtaposed, endlessly forming cyclic random landscapes. Despite the necessary fixity of combinations due to editorial constraints, these programmed landscapes allow the gaze to travel through the visual material, between time and movement, and generate a network of visible and invisible information, intertwining the creation of a visual tale, the construction of a page and the composition of a book.
